Royal Mint Private Mint Coins

Sometimes its the coins you cant get from the RM that are the most interesting and desirable. Over recent years there have been some interesting coins made privately by the Royal Mint for specific dealers in far flung places. The 2016 1/4oz Peter Rabbit coins were made by the Royal Mint for the Japanese market for use in Jewellery.

This year has seen 3 such off the radar coins the 2020 Gold 50p Brexit coin and the 2020 Gold George 3 Five Pound Piedfort. Both of these are very specific editions of regular coins so the art element is the same as existing coins. The Mayflower is slightly different but still kind of uses similar artwork to the Gold 2 coin.

Some private coins are “trial pieces” and though marked as “legal tender” they are not legal tender as they are classified as Art Objects. These trial pieces have Hallmarks the same as art objects to attest purity and make and are highly desirable in their own right.
